Fisherman airlifted after trawler accident
A Spanish fisherman in his mid 40s, who sustained serious head injuries in an accident on board a trawler, has been airlifted to Shannon Airport.
The incident happened 230 miles off the west coast, on board a Spanish-registered trawler.
The Shannon based Sikorsky helicopter was alerted just before midnight and had to refuel on both the outward and return legs at the Corrib gas field.
The injured man has now been transferred to Limerick Regional Hospital.
