Two of the European Union’s top figures were in Dublin today, two weeks after Ireland’s shock referendum rejection of the community’s Treaty of Nice.

European Commission President Romano Prodi was arriving in Dublin for a four-day visit for a series of engagements, including talks with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, who was severely embarrassed by the country’s failure to accept EU enlargement envisaged by the Nice Treaty.
