Youth refused bail in Cavan killing case

A 16-year-old Co Cavan youth has appeared before Virginia District Court this morning in connection with the death of a 70-year-old pensioner.

Paddy Jackson lost his life following an incident in a car park last Saturday evening.

The youth appeared on three charges including assaulting Mr Jackson, and will be remanded in custody at St Patrick's Institute in Dublin.

Gardai opposed bail on the grounds that the teenager would interfere with witnesses and Garda Superintendent Jack O'Connor said that he had already done so prior to his arrest yesterday.

He will appear in in Mohill District Court in Co Leitrim on Friday, June 1.
