Clare woman begins sentence for murder

A 20-year-old Co Clare woman is starting a life sentence behind bars after being found guilty of murder.

A jury has taken less than three hours to convict Deirdre Rose from Killaloo of murdering a young Limerick man in 1998.

Protesting her innocence at the Central Criminal Court, after the verdict was delivered, Deirdre Rose, who is five months pregnant denies killing anybody, and questioned what evidence there was against her.

The 21-year-old victim, John Carroll from Cappamore in Limerick, died at the hands of Rose who the prosecution said was part of a group who intended to inflict serious bodily harm on the dead man, at Ballynahinch in Co Tipperary on December 4th 1998.

Deirdre Rose told the judge she was sorry for all the trouble that happened but murdered nobody.

She was also convicted of assaulting with intent to rob Mr Carroll, which she also denied, and will be sentenced for those crimes in July.
