Haemophiliacs challenge Blood Bank for release of papers
The Irish Haemophilia Society will apply to the High Court today to demand the release of confidential papers relating to the infection of victims with HIV from contaminated blood.
This is the first challenge to the Lindsay Tribunal, which has been investigating the scandal.
Pressure on the Blood Bank has been mounting since both the Health Minister and the Tanaiste urged them to release papers relating to the blood scandal.
Today haemophiliacs infected with HIV will ask the High Court to have details of these papers provided to the Lindsay Tribunal investigating the scandal.
They want to know what the Blood Bank knew when a no-fault settlement was reached with the Government in 1991.
