Carthy family threaten withdrawal from inquiry

The family of John Carthy has threatened to withdraw its co-operation from the Dail inquiry into his shooting at Abbeylara if further conditions are imposed upon it.

Legal counsel for the family, Michael O'Higgins SC, said "strictures" had already been placed upon lawyers attending the tribunal.

At this stage, he said, everyone is simply a guest.

Counsel for several members of the Garda Emergency Response Unit, John Rogers SC, has already insisted that the inquiry does not have powers to cross-examine gardai and is merely there to establish the facts.
