A Co Wexford meat factory has been sealed off by Department of Agriculture officials following the discovery of a suspected foot-and-mouth case.

Tests are being carried out by veterinary experts on a lamb taken to the Irish Country Meats plant in Camolin.

The animal was said to be displaying symptoms resembling those caused by foot-and-mouth disease.

However, the Department of Agriculture has insisted the measures are purely precautionary.

More than 740 farms remain sealed off across the country.
