Jobs blow for Co Offaly as sportswear firm shuts

200 jobs are to go at the Lowe Alpine sports and leisure wear company in Co Offaly.

The company today informed shocked workers at the Tullamore plant that it is to close in March, blaming increased competition and pressure on costs. Management are currently in discussions with SIPTU representatives, but there seems little hope that the closure can be prevented
