Kelly accuses RUC of cover-up

Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly has accused the RUC of a cover-up for failing to identify one of its officers who struck him on the head while he was trying to calm a crowd during a protest. He said he did not believe the RUC had investigated his claim very thoroughly.

"They said in a statement that they could not identify the number on the officer's helmet, but contrast this to the enhancing techniques they have used in cases against republicans," he said. Mr Kelly today received a Stg£9,000 out-of-court settlement in compensation for the incident.
