New primary school in Cork town seeks patron
The decision will ultimately rest with Education Minister Richard Bruton as to who should be patron of the eight-class school due to open next September.
It is one of three scheduled to open in 2017 for which applications to become patron have been invited, the others being in Dún Laoghaire and Pelletstown in Dublin.
While the formal process is only now beginning, interest in being patron of the Ballincollig school has already been expressed by An Foras Pátrúnachta, Cork Education and Training Board, and Educate Together.
“Parental demand is one of the key considerations in deciding on the patronage of these four new primary schools and I urge patrons to engage with parents in the relevant school planning areas in this regard,” Mr Bruton said.
Based on expressions of interest, the department will submit a report to the New Schools Establishment Group which will recommend to the minister who should be patron to each of the schools.
As well as the ethos model they would prefer, parents of prospective pupils in the areas will be asked to indicate if they prefer to have their children taught through English or Irish.
