Informant sues over French conviction

A man is suing the State claiming that as a Garda informant there was a failure to protect him from criminal prosecution and conviction in France for drug trafficking which was part of the arrangement for being an informant.

The man is suing for misrepresentation, breach of contract, and breach of his Constitutional and European Convention rights.

The Garda commissioner and the State deny his claims. The commissioner accepts the man was paid for information and that he did perform some surveillance role in providing information.
