Ex-Munster youth player attacked pub security man

Tobi Ademakin, aged 21, of Oakfield, Fr Russell Court, Dooradoyle, Limerick, pleaded guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to assault causing harm.
The court heard that Ademakin, now in university in the UK, had returned to face the charge. When living in Limerick he played at U20 level for Munster as well as club rugby with Garryowen.
The court heard the victim had been working security at Molly’s in Ellen St on the night of December 21, 2014.
Ademakin approached at around midnight and wanted to know if he was still barred arising from a previous incident some months earlier.
He was told he was.
Ademakin came back at 2am and challenged the security man why he was still barred. Without warning he struck the man who fell and hit his head. The security man, a married father of four in his 40s, was knocked unconscious as a result of the blow to the head.
He was taken to hospital where it was discovered he had swelling to the brain. This resulted in him suffering loss of memory and developing problems with his balance and memory.
He had to give up his day full-time work as a manager in a supermarket for five weeks.
In a victim impact statement, the security man said his life had changed completely and he was not the same person physically and mentally.
The court was told the accused had paid €5,000 to the victim.
Judge Tom O’Donnell said a probation service report said the accused was at very low risk of reoffending.
Judge O’Donnell said the accused had delivered a single sucker punch which had catastrophic consequences for the victim.
He imposed a three-year suspended sentence.
