The Irish Prison Service (IPS) is shelling out almost €550,000 on over 29,000 white Y-fronts, dressing gowns, polo shirts and other items of clothing for inmates.

The contract awarded to Call Us Ltd from Killybegs, Co Donegal, totals €548,001 and also includes the requirement for pyjamas, and anoraks for 3,791 prisoners.

The IPS is not introducing a prison uniform but all prisoners entering the system have the option of availing of new clothes which will be provided by the prison service.
