This video shows the destruction caused as Syrian government lay siege to Allepo

Syrian government troops are moving in against rebel-held positions in the Syrian city of Aleppo. 

The war-torn city is a major symbol of the uprising against President Assad which Damascus has long aimed to contain.

In response, the Rebels in Aleppo claim to have stockpiled enough basic supplies to survive months of siege.

The United Nations say's it is deeply concerned about the fighting and has called for humanitarian aid.

France's foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, who is visiting the neighbouring country of Lebanon, has condemned the breaking of the ceasefire. "...There won't be a military solution to Syrian," he said, "There can only be a political solution."

Aleppo was once an economic hub of Syria but has been ravaged by the conflict since March 2011 resulting in the deaths of more than 280,000 people.
