Two more men arrested in hotel shooting probe

David Byrne, aged 33, from Raleigh Square in Crumlin, was shot and killed at the Regency Hotel on 6 February.

The two men arrested, aged 59 and 38, are being detained at Swords and Clontarf Garda Stations respectively under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

Last night’s arrests brings to three the number of people who have been arrested as part of this murder investigation.

A third man, aged in his 20s, was arrested five days ago.

David Byrne, was a lieutenant in the Kinahan crime cartel. Daniel Kinahan, the elder son of Christopher Kinahan, the leader of the cartel, escaped death after he jumped out of a Regency hotel window with his bodyguard.

Gardaí believe the attack was carried out by members of the Hutch gang in retaliation for the shooting dead of Gary Hutch in Spain last September.

The detective team at Ballymun Garda Station has made significant progress in its investigation, including the identification of the entire six-man gang involved in the Regency attack.
