Environment minister Alan Kelly is set to be hauled before a cross-party housing committee as early as next week to answer questions on the ongoing housing, rent, and homelessness crises.

Sinn Féin TD Eoin Ó Broin said that his party will request the Labour deputy leader’s appearance at the group when it is formally established by the Dáil on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters as it emerged the cost of “rapid” building houses for homeless families previously championed by Mr Kelly could now cost more than double the original price, Mr Ó Broin said the minister has an obligation to explain how he is addressing the wider crisis.
