Joel Crouch, Eventbrite’s general manager in Ireland and the UK, said the firm would open the office within a matter of weeks as part of an IDA-supported investment in what will be its second Irish office.

The company had been scouring the city for suitable office space. It has identified a number of potential spaces and is confident of securing a location soon.

It launches a recruitment drive today to hire about 15 full-time customer-support staff for its growing customer base around the world.

Eventbrite is looking for people who speak various languages, including German, Dutch, Italian, French, and English.

Mr Crouch said it is eyeing rapid expansion and hopes to grow the Cork office to about 50 staff within three years.

Eventbrite was founded in 2006 to democratise the ticketing industry. Headquartered in San Francisco, its investors include Sequoia Capital, Tiger Global, and T Rowe Price.

The company allows event organisers to create an online page for their events, to sell tickets, promote and manage events, and analyse results.

It offers event attendees access to a variety of live events, from small photography and yoga classes to large concerts and festivals with tens of thousands of people.

Since its foundation, it has processed around €4.5bn in gross ticket sales for customers around the globe.

Last year alone, the company supported millions of events in 180 countries, and processed more than 100m tickets. It has nine offices around the world, including an operation in Dublin’s Digital Hub.

Mr Crouch said the company examined sites all over Ireland and the UK. He said Eventbrite chose Cork for its 10th global office because of the city’s readily available talent pool and its growing reputation as a tech and software hub.

“When we looked for a home for our growing customer support team in Europe, we searched for a place with easy access to great talent, while also affording our team members a high quality of life. That’s what we found in Cork,” he said.

Mr Crouch said the new Cork office will play a key role in Eventbrite’s international network of customer-support centres, with offices already located in San Francisco, Mendoza and Nashville.

When the company opened the Nashville office in 2014, it had 45 customer-support staff. That figure has doubled in just two years, with teams now focusing on customer support, sales, and engineering.
