The 57-year-old Dubliner who admitted having the cannabis for sale or supply in Mayfield and at Kyrl’s Quay, Cork, was sentenced to six years with the last three-and-a-half suspended.

Judge David Riordan imposed that sentence on Henry Nolan of 391, Ballyfermot Road, Dublin, at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

The judge said that there had to be a custodial element to the sentence because of the amount of drugs involved but in mitigation the judge took into consideration the plea of guilty and the fact that the accused had never served a jail term before.

He admitted having cannabis at Kyrl’s Quay, Cork, on March 3 for sale or supply. A more serious charge of having drugs at the Mayfield house when the street value exceeded €13,000 was also admitted.

Detective Sergeant Lar O’Brien said at Cork Circuit Criminal Court that in February gardaí received confidential information that Henry Nolan was actively involved in selling or supplying drugs and he was kept under surveillance for a period.

Drugs squad gardaí saw him engaged in various drugs transactions on the date in question.
