VIDEO: Busking star Milo raises €7k for appeal
Earlier this month, the Midleton guitar player hit the headlines after making €500 in one hour busking for charity on Paul Street in Cork City centre.
Now, less than a fortnight later, the rising busking sensation has secured a phenomenal €7,000 for Migrant Crisis Appeal operated by the Irish Red Cross.
Milo, who is in sixth class at St John The Baptist National School in Midleton, was particularly saddened at the plight of refugees risking their lives to get to Europe.
With the encouragement of his father Ronan, a plan was hatched to busk for 26 hours and raise as much money as possible to help the work of the Irish Red Cross.
Speaking as Milo entertained Cork shoppers yesterday, Ronan said he was not surprised at the success of the campaign, given the generosity of the Irish public.
“I am not surprised to be honest. Milo is eight hours into 26 hours of busking but people are just so generous. It really reflects well on the people of Cork that a simple street campaign can generate so much reaction and it’s working,” he said.
Milo played a mix of Bob Marley, Beatles, Paolo Nutini and Kodaline. Ronan said his son was not looking for publicity but was just interested in doing what he could to help.
“He’s a modest kid and has no interest in publicity. When the 26 hours are done, he won’t be seeking out any attention. He just feels strongly about the issue and in helping the Red Cross in the great work they are doing,” he said.
With 18 hours left, the talented Midleton boy has no target in mind. The plan is to just keep playing and raise as much money as he can.
“We always hear about what politicians are not doing but it should be about what people are doing.
“There are a lot of small campaigns doing great work. There’s a lot happening and Milo is just contributing to that. A target is just a figure,” he said.
