A one-handed taxi driver explained that he did not lift a heavy suitcase out of the boot of his car for an airport passenger because of his disability but the woman in the car felt that he was verbally abusive and she complained to gardaí about his behaviour.

The matter went to trial at Cork District Court yesterday where 41-year-old Benjamin Aihie of 19, Mahon Drive, Mahon, Cork, pleaded not guilty to engaging in threatening words or behaviour on the occasion outside the passenger’s house in Friars Walk, Cork City.

He denied another charge of failing to drive in a civil manner as a taxi driver.
