Rose of Tralee: Shane has the right stuff to be Escort of Year

Sheep shearing, footing turf and building stone walls — all essential skills for any fella seeking to accompany a Rose, according to Escort of the Year Shane Kenny.

The Traleeman won the title at this year’s Rose of Tralee festival, fending off stiff competition to take home a silver-plated canteen of cutlery, a Newbridge jewellery collection with Rose of Tralee cufflinks, a bracelet, watch, leather belt, wallet and cheque for €1,000.

The prize, worth almost €5,000 overall,was presented by Martin Kilduff of Newbridge Silverware, the main sponsors of the festival.
