Garda killer on run again after crash
The notorious 29-year-old crashed a car on the outskirts of Letterkenny on Tuesday last and was rushed to Letterkenny General Hospital by ambulance.
McDermott, from Raphoe, suffered cracked ribs and broken bones and was put in an orthopaedic ward and doctors recommended he be put in a special back brace.
However he fled the hospital on Thursday evening before he could be interviewed by Gardaí.
McDermott is now believed to be in hiding across the border and may have tried to receive treatment at Derry’s Altnagelvin Hospital.
He is not supposed to be driving as he is still serving part of a 20-year driving ban after killing tragic Garda Gary McLoughlin.
He was controversially released from the Midlands Prison in June, four years into a seven-year sentence for killing Garda McLoughlin in Burt in 2009.
He was jailed in July 2011 after being found guilty of manslaughter of the young Garda.
McDermott, from Raphoe, hit the headlines when he escaped from the low-security open prison at Loughlin House in Co Cavan just eight months later.
