Marie Crowley teacher at Scoil Chlochair Mhuire Carrigtwohill, shows off their Overall Best Garden in Cork, Muintir Na Tíre.
The very proud teacher explains "we have just won the overall Best Garden in Cork Muintir Na Tire - Pride in County Garden Competition today! The children have spent the last few months developing an eco-friendly garden using recycled or upcycled products. All 450 children were involved in this project. We have upcycled tractor tyres, bicycle tyres old jam jars, we made a pond from a lorry tyre, we filled a wall with wellies and planted them up full of flowers, an old Belfast sink was converted into a bird bath, old pallets were attached to the wall and used to grow strawberries, old scaffolding boards were used to make vegetable plots. Old election posters were used to draw signs to other countries - to help represent the 37 nationalities in our school. We are near our school holidays so the children would love to finish on a high!"
