Students at Dublin Institute of Technology bonded in grief across the world yesterday to remember those who died or were injured in the Berkeley balcony collapse in California.

A service of prayer, music, and reflection conducted by the college’s chaplaincy service co-ordinator, Fr Alan Hilliard, at the DIT’s Aungier Street campus, was streamed live on the internet.

DIT student Eoghan Culligan, who had just completed his third year studying logistics and supply chain management, was one of the students who died at Berkeley. Head of public affairs at DIT, Melda Slattery, said that students and staff wanted to stand in solidarity with Eoghan’s family and all who knew him.
