10% of parents admit losing children on holiday
A survey of 656 Irish parents found almost one in 10 have been accidentally separated from their child or children under the age of 10 while holidaying abroad.
The figure jumps to nearly one in five for those who opt for staycations, suggesting less vigilance on home turf.
Losing your child abroad is pretty stressful with almost half of parents citing lack of knowledge of the surrounding area as their biggest worry; followed by not having a command of the language (17%).
The good news is that canny Irish manufacturers of KoolioBandz can offer some peace of mind.
They say their KoolioBandz identity wristband, with its own individual code, is “designed to keep your child safe”.
Each wristband has a code and anyone who finds your lost child can send you a secure text message about your offspring’s location by inputting that code on the KoolioBandz website via smartphone or PC.
If the person finding the child speaks a different language, the KoolioBandz system even translates the message. In fact it can translate from 40 languages and operates 24/7.
Parents can buy wristbands for all their children, linking the same mobile numbers to them and can receive a text message about their lost child, anywhere in the world, at no charge.
ISPCC Childline, which gets 50c for every sale of a pack-of-two wristbands (€9.95) also gave it the thumbs up. Spokeswoman Nicola MacDermott said: “We receive 1,800 calls a day from children and young people all across Ireland reaching out for support. This funding will go towards ensuring we can continue to maintain this vital service.”
KoolioBandz wristbands are available in pharmacies, SuperValu stores and supermarkets countrywide.
