Drunk man took selfies in garda car

A man chose the night of the victorious Cork camogie team’s homecoming as an opportunity to open an unattended garda patrol car, sit in it, and take selfies.

It was witnessed by a supporter of the team who was at event at the Imperial Hotel on September 15, 2014. As Martin O’Donovan left the Imperial with his family, he spotted Radoslaw Kawadzki in a garda patrol car parked nearby and alerted Garda Karl Griffin.

Garda Griffin approached Kawadzki, of 5 Friars Walk Mews, Greenmount, Cork.

“He was highly intoxicated holding the bike and attempting to walk away,” he said. “He attempted to push me away. He was very abusive in Polish. I could pick up words like bastard. I arrested him and cautioned him but he continued to be aggressive and a I arrested him and had to place handcuffs on him.”

When Kawadzki’s phone was examined there were photographs of the garda car with the doors closed, the doors open, and selfies of the accused at the scene.

Kawadzki, 32, previously pleaded not guilty to charges

but did not come to court. Judge Leo Malone convicted him and issued a warrant for his arrest, as Inspector John Deasy said there was a two-month suspended term over him for a previous offence.
