Fund for Karen Buckley’s family raises €69k
The page was set up by friends and colleagues of Ms Buckley’s nursing course at the University of Limerick, who were hoping to raise £5,000 to help the Buckley family with accommodation expenses, travel expenses and upkeep of their farm in Mourneabbey, Co Cork.
In just 24 hours, more than 2,800 people had donated £50,001 to the fund which closed yesterday evening.

The fund organisers thanked the thousands of people who gave money for their “amazing
generosity”.
“A huge thank you to everyone for your kind words and amazing donations. The response has been overwhelming. We hope that what has been raised will be of help in any way possible to Karen’s family. Thank you all so much for your amazing generosity.”

Those who donated to the fund also took time to leave messages for the Buckley family.

Olive O’Sullivan said: “As a mother of two teenagers and a farmers daughter, I want to express my heartfelt sadness to you all. I can’t help in the loss, but hope my donation will ease the burden of easing work at home.”
A fellow occupational therapy student, Laura Kerr, expressed her sorrow at Karen’s tragic death.
“As an OT student myself I feel compelled to help Karen’s family in any way I can. I know it’s not much but it is all I have. Life can be so unfair. You are with the angels now Karen, may you rest in peace,” she wrote.
Another donor, Lindy Irving, said: “I’m so so sorry this happened to your lovely daughter. I know the people of Glasgow and of Scotland are grieving for you and hoping you will find some small comfort in having had her in your life for 24 years.”
