Schools to distribute cyberbullying leaflets
The charity will provide the information leaflets, which are designed for parents, free to the estimated 3,200 primary and 720 secondary schools around the country.
Pat Connolly, Lions district anti-bullying officer, said some clubs had already delivered about 65,000 leaflets to school principals for redistribution.
He said the mammoth task of getting to all schools would probably take the best part of the year, but it was something the group was anxious to do.
“It is focused on parents and gives them guides, for instance, to spot which may indicate that their child is a victim of bullying.
Things they should look out for in their children are unexpected anxiety about travelling to school, refusing to go to school, loss of confidence, displays of anger, and unexplained cuts or injuries and damage to their clothing,” Mr Connolly said.
There is also a section on cyberbullying and guidelines on how to block unwanted texts or pictures with information from each of the mobile phone networks of how to block unwanted transmissions.
