Danny Kissane dies aged 89
Mr Kissane, from Carnahone, Beaufort, had been a councillor for 32 years, between 1967 and 1999, before retiring from political life. He was chair of the council in 1989/1990 and served on numerous committees.
Former councillor Michael Connor-Scarteen said Mr Kissane had been light-hearted but was always ready to take on the establishment.
Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae, who entered local politics the year Mr Kissane retired, described him as a role model and someone who would light up a room.
Fine Gael TD Brendan Griffin said he had left behind a legacy of hard work. “Danny was one of the great characters of Kerry politics, and his wit, charm, and sharp intellect will be greatly missed.”
Mr Kissane is survived by his wife Nora, son Noel, daughters Mary, Siobhan, and Nuala, brother Johnny, and sister Bridie among a large family circle.
His remains will be reposing this evening at Flynn’s Funeral Home, Castlemaine, from 5pm-7.45pm followed by removal to St Mary’s Church Beaufort. Requiem Mass is tomorrow at 11am with burial in Churchtown Cemetery.
