Lee Golden, aged 24, of Casement View, Ardfert, asked to be allowed bail so he could, for the first time, avail of methadone treatment. He had been in jail in Cork in December serving a sentence for public order and burglary offences and was released in January, the court was told.

Golden, who has 52 previous convictions, had been remanded in custody from a special sitting of the court at the weekend, charged with entering Ardfert Garda Station on February 4 and committing a theft.

However, Judge James O’Connor refused bail and remanded him to Listowel District Court on February 19. Padraig O’Connell, solicitor, said he would make a High Court application for bail on Monday next.
