Kildare shop celebrates selling the winning €10m lotto ticket
Jordanâs Centra in Curragh Grange, Newbridge, Co Kildare, has been buzzing with excitement since they heard the news. One of their customers has won the top prize in this weekâs lotto, a whopping âŹ10m.
âHopefully it was a local. We donât really, know to be honest,â said shopowner Alan Jordan.
âIt wasnât me anyway. And it wasnât any of the staff because they were all in work this morning.â
Alan got word about the big win when he missed a phonecall from the sales manager at the National Lottery.
âI missed the call and got a text to ring him urgently so I kind of gathered that we might have sold a winning ticket but I didnât gather that weâd sold the winning ticket, the âŹ10m,â he said.
âHopefully it was a syndicate but we donât know.
âThereâs a number of locals that play the same numbers regularly so time will tell whether it was one of those or not.
âBut itâs a great day for us, and great excitement in the shop today.â
To celebrate, the shop offered free tea or coffee to every customer yesterday.
The winning ticket was a multi-draw slip, purchased in the shop on January 29, and one punter now has an extra âŹ10,230,560 to their name.
The numbers drawn were 09, 10, 18, 20, 24 and 26. The bonus number was 35.
The draw was originally supposed to have taken place on Wednesday night, but was postponed for 24 hours after technical difficulty with National Lottery terminals.
It was the first time in nearly 30 years since the Lotto was first set up that a draw was postponed.
Around 3,500 retailers across the country were affected due to a problem that originated with Telefonicaâs 3G network.
National Lottery marketing director Eddie Banville said the problem had been âtotally uniqueâ and was outside of their control.
A full investigation is taking place to ensure the problem does not happen again.
