Phone users can axe discount landline contract

Discount landline operator Yourtel has agreed to write to customers telling them of their right to cancel their contracts after a Comreg investigation.

Phone users can axe discount landline contract

Yourtel hit the headlines in September after it emerged it was under investigation by Comreg after the watchdog received “a large volume of complaints” in relation to its practices.

Yourtel sells a number of products based on Carrier Pre-Selection (CPS). This system allows customers to select different providers for their line rental and for their calls in order to reduce costs.

ComReg has investigated services given to customers where Yourtel’s CPS was used to provide calls and Eircom to provide line rental. This resulted in customers receiving two separate bills — one from each of the companies.

In a statement issued yesterday Comreg confirmed that Yourtel had given an undertaking to write to all of its customers who have entered an agreement with it since 13 June 2014 informing those customers of their right to cancel their contract.

This letter will include a cancellation form which, if completed and returned within two weeks, will amount to notice of cancellation of the contract. A call confirming cancellation to Yourtel’s customer service number within this timeframe will also be accepted as proof of cancellation.
