‘National scandal’ as one in three experience enforced deprivation

Nearly one in three Irish people experienced enforced deprivation in 2013, figures released by the Central Statistics Office have revealed.

The CSO’s 2013 Survey on Income and Living Conditions found 30.5% of the population experienced deprivation, compared with 26.9% in 2012 and a seven-year low of 11.8% in 2007.

Both Social Justice Ireland and children’s charity Barnardos issued criticism of Government policy in light of the CSO’s findings.
