Kelly agrees to proposals on privatisation

Environment Minister Alan Kelly has agreed to opposition proposals to strengthen legislation forcing future governments to go to the people before privatising Irish Water.

The concession came as Sinn Féin yesterday called for water charges to be abolished or for the Coalition to step down and hold a general election.

Mr Kelly was last night also forced to withdraw remarks after he allegedly swore at Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath.
