He’s worn winning footwear from the get-go and now the boots that took Aidan O’Mahony to an All-Ireland title have gone on to raise €25,000 in a charity auction.

The Kerry senior footballer had handed his boots to a smiling youngster that caught his eye in the crowd in Croke Park on All-Ireland final day last month.

It turned out 11-year-old Diarmaid De Bhillis was a youngster with special needs. Diarmaid avails of a Killarney-based service called Home from Home, designed to give respite to parents and siblings of children with special needs. The service caters for the 4-18 age group and facilitates 18 families in Kerry.
