The National Roads Authority has ordered Cork County Council to carry out a safety report on a popular walking area amid fears pedestrians could fall out onto a busy main road.

Fine Gael TD Jim Daly said he had received complaints from pedestrians using the popular walkway at Schull Rd, Skibbereen, and that he had referred the matter to the NRA.

The footpath in the area is beneath the road surface. It often gets flooded and when this happens, pedestrians have to step out onto the busy N71, the main road between Skibbereen and Ballybehob.
