Minister doesn’t rule out changes to junior cycle reform
She met leaders of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (Asti) and Teachers’ Union of Ireland yesterday, having agreed to listen to their concerns which are mainly about the requirement that their members assess their own students for coursework and final exams for the new Junior Cycle Student Award. Their 27,000 members in second-level schools are still refusing to take part in JCSA training, school planning or to teach short courses for the new qualification.
But while Ms O’Sullivan did not make any concessions on their demands for changes to the plan, there appears to be room for more discussion to get teachers on board with the entire reform package.
