Week-long online comhrá set to break records
The people behind Seachtain na Gaeilge are hoping to break a world record by partaking in a non-stop, 169 hour conversation in Irish.
They are calling on Irish-speaking people and groups to "take part in a world record attempt for the longest Irish language conversation in the world".
Groups from all over the world will take part in a "relay conversation circle" for 169 hours from 5 - 12 October. Each group will hold an hour long conversation and the various groups will link up as Comhrá ’14 streams live online for the entire duration.
The wider public will have the opportunity to interact with participants through Twitter using the hashtag #comhra.
“Comhrá 24/7 was held for Bliain na Gaeilge 2013 and the world record was achieved for a 168 hour long Irish conversation. We hope to build on this record and break it with 169 hours this year," said Seachtain na Gaeilge Manager Brenda Ní Ghairbhí. "It’s a brilliant way of encouraging people and groups who are interested in using Irish and linking with similar groups around the world to celebrate the language in an original and fun way.”
The organisers have allocated various topics to ensure the conversation flows during the week. They include sportm, drama, art, dance, history and music.
