The recently departed head of the Department of Finance has cautioned against tax reliefs for investors as he warned there were still several risks to the economic recovery.

In his first public address since stepping down as department secretary general, John Moran said that Ireland had “turned the corner” but we had to be careful not “to lose the prize”.

Speaking at the MacGill Summer School in Donegal, he said there were still “quite a lot of risks on the horizon”. These included weak global economic growth, potential interest rate rises, international political unrest, as well as a lot less liquidity in the bond markets.
