‘Conflict of interest’

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has questioned senior appointments made by Environment Minister Phil Hogan, claiming they represent a conflict of interest.

Mr Adams called on the Taoiseach Enda Kenny to examine decisions made by Mr Hogan.

He pointed to “allegations that An Bord Pleanála upheld objections to a major planning proposal in the county, a matter of fact, despite all objections to the development having been withdrawn, a matter of fact. The person who authorised this inexplicable decision was appointed deputy chairperson of An Bord Pleanála by Minister Hogan, despite obvious and serious conflict of interest issues.”

Mr Kenny warned Mr Adams he should not make such accusations in the Dáil. “Ministers can choose membership of boards from outside specific applications that are made,” he added.
