McDowell, through his G-Mac Foundation, is a long-term supporter of the hospital.

The #RBCGolf4Kids campaign is an initiative from the Royal Bank of Canada, which sponsors McDowell.

Along with 11 other golfers, he has been raising awareness of RBC’s Golf for Kids programme through the use of personalised hashtags on Twitter and Instagram.

The golfer, whose tag has been used the most over the course of the campaign, will receive $125,000 (€92,000) from an overall pot of $300,000 (€220,000) for their chosen charity.

#RBCGolf4Kids launched on April 15 at the RBC Heritage tournament and will finish on July 27 at the RBC Canadian Open.

McDowell is encouraging people to get behind him during this week’s Irish Open at Fota Island by using the hashtag as much as possible on Twitter or Instagram.

Commenting on the initiative, McDowell said: “The support we have received since the campaign began in April has been overwhelming.

“Now that we are so close, I really want to secure the top prize of $125,000 for the CMRF. My aim is to get #RBCMcDowell trending throughout the Irish Open.”

To get involved in the campaign, tweet #RBCMCDowell #RBCGolf4Kids. You can also follow the star golfer @Graeme_McDowell and the Children’s Medical & Research Foundation via @CMRF_Crumlin.
