170 free third-level courses for jobseekers

More than 170 free third-level courses aimed at training people in skills for expanding employment sectors are being opened up for applications this week.

There are 6,100 places available on the latest round of Springboard programmes, which offer qualifications from higher certificates up to Masters degree level for jobseekers, at 38 universities, institutes of technology and private colleges

The courses being announced this morning by Education Minister Ruairi Quinn include more than 20 in information and communications technology (ICT). Others offer part- time study in areas such as high-end manufacturing and international financial services, and other areas where the minister said there are existing job opportunities and huge potential for growth.
