Donegal haulage firm moves to save on tax

A Donegal haulage firm is moving north of the border because of rising taxes.

Bradley Transport, based in Buncrana, is pulling the plug on its operations and moving the main part of its operation to Derry.

The company, which has been in operation for 20 years, employs 40 people and the owners say the majority of those jobs will now be based in the North.

Peter Bradley of the family-owned business said they will make a huge saving overnight. “The move is saving €150,000 alone in road taxes and that’s nothing to be laughed at. We pay about €5,000 on each vehicle we have.

“Our operation is high turnover and low margin and this kind of saving is the difference between us staying in business and not,” he said. “It costs about €300 to get a truck and trailer through an NCT but an MOT in the North costs about £125. That’s a huge saving each time.”
