Man quizzed in connection with violent carjacking

Liz Turley, 59, was rendered unconscious after being knocked to the ground when she exited her car outside the gates to her apartment complex in south Dublin.

The carjacker, along with a female accomplice, jumped into Ms Turley’s car during the broad daylight robbery last Monday week.

Ms Turley was entering a code into security gates of her Argyle House apartment complex in Ballsbridge just before 2pm when she was jumped on.

The male robber pushed her away from her car, causing her to fall and strike her head off a kerb.

She sustained serious head injuries in the attack and was treated at the specialist head injuries centre at Beaumont Hospital, north Dublin. She has since been making a recovery.

Detectives based in Irishtown Garda Station made a breakthrough when they found her car near Cuffe St flats in the south inner city.

The car was intact and was taken away for forensic examination. Gardaí gathered CCTV footage from the area in a bid to identify the two culprits.

They arrested a 32-year-old male in the city centre at 7.40pm on Monday. The man, originally from Inchicore, was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Meanwhile, gardaí searching for two Dublin men missing for a week continued to conduct a major search on lands and buildings on the border of counties Cavan and Meath.

Anthony Keegan, 33 and Eoin O’Connor, 32, were last seen in Dublin on the evening of Tuesday last.
