The case against Darren Foley, aged 40, of 3 Riverbank, Curraheen Rd, Cork, was put back for a month for prosecution statements to be sent to defence solicitor Frank Buttimer.

It will then be a matter for Mr Foley to decide if he is pleading guilty or not guilty.

Judge Leo Malone said it was a case that could be heard at Cork District Court after he heard an outline of the allegations.

Inspector Bill Duane gave the outline of the prosecution case.

Boston policeman Joe Cahill, 39, was in Cork on holidays last July.

At 9.45pm on July 16, he saw a man at Lancaster Quay, Cork, throw a brick at a passing car, striking the back right side of the vehicle

The man who threw the brick appeared to be intoxicated and aggressive.

Mr Cahill observed this man entering Cafe Paradiso, where he demanded to use the toilet facilities. He then headbutted David O’Mahony, who was working at the restaurant.

The culprit was then seen leaving the area. Mr Cahill and another man followed him to Bishop St.

As a result of what allegedly happened there, Mr Foley was charged with assaulting Mr Cahill and ripping his shirt, causing €€80 worth of damage.

Following the earlier alleged matters, Mr Foley was charged with assault causing harm to Mr O’Mahony.

Mr Foley was remanded on bail to appear in Cork District Court again in four weeks.
