Students in some counties are being unfairly denied access to post-Leaving Certificate courses, a teachers’ union has claimed.

The number of places on PLC courses, mostly run in colleges managed by the 16 education and training boards (ETBs, formerly vocational education committees or VECs), has been capped for years at 32,500.

However, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland said there is a wide disparity in the number of PLC places relative to population in different counties.
