Whistleblower McCabe claims he is still being harassed
Sergeant McCabe and his wife Lorraine wrote last week to senior management in the Westmeath division complaining their family believe negative actions by a senior officer towards Sergeant McCabe are directly related to his activities in highlighting the penalty points issue.
The incidents are just the latest in what Sgt McCabe believes has been ongoing low level harassment of him at work as a result of the penalty points issue. On this occasion, fellow officers alerted him about the activities of the senior officer.
Sgt McCabe is based in the traffic corps in Mullingar but is restricted in carrying out his duties because of an order removing his access to the Pulse computer system. The restrictions were placed on him in December 2012 and continue despite the publication of a series of reports suggesting his allegations about misuse of the penalty points system were found to be correct. Sources close to the sergeant indicated that he did not wish to comment in any way on the resignation of Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.
Meanwhile, retired garda John Wilson, who was present at the Public Accounts Committee meeting on January 23 when then Commissioner Callinan described the actions of the two men as “disgusting“, issued a brief statement yesterday.
“I take no pleasure in the demise of any human being. Martin Callinan has done this country some great service throughout his career in an Garda Síochána but his position had become untenable and his decision to resign is the correct one.”
Mr Wilson is currently recuperating after surgery to address a serious medical condition.
