The jury in the trial of a man who denied sexually assaulting his partner’s daughter 15 times when she was a child could not reach a verdict after three hours and 44 minutes of deliberation.

“You did the best you could, it is a difficult job. It will now have to go to someone else to decide it,” Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin said as he thanked the jury for the work they had put into the case over the past three days.

It will now be a matter for another jury to hear the same case, possibly before the end of the year.
