Daughter embraces driver of the car that killed her father

In an emotional scene on the steps of a court house yesterday, the daughter of a patient who died when he was hit by a car after he left a hospital to go to a nearby take-away, embraced the driver involved in the accident.

A tearful Carol O’Brien of Kennedy Park, Roscrea, hugged William McDermott, from Embury Close, Adare, outside Limerick Circuit Court.

Minutes earlier, Mr McDermott, aged 72, was cleared by a jury of dangerous driving causing the death of Mrs O’Brien’s father, Michael Doran, aged 69.
