Tubridy saves day for Brooks fans
After hearing about the women’s plight, Tubridy rang Joanne Mulcahy, from Limerick, to tell her he had two tickets for her on his 2FM radio show yesterday morning.
Ms Mulcahy, 36, and Kate Ronan, 32, together with six other friends, queued outside Ticketmaster agent Gleeson’s Sports Scene for 50 hours. However, the shop could only sell tickets to the first 49 people because its system suffered technical difficulties.
Gardaí were called to the scene to calm the situation after some fans became enraged when told there were no more tickets left. No arrests were made.
Ms Mulcahy and Ms Ronan, both from Corbally, had been next in line to get tickets when management apologised and informed them there were no more tickets available.
However, the two diehard Garth Brooks fans were yesterday singing the praises of their new hero Tubridy — second only to Mr Brooks — for taking pity on them.
“I’m screaming around the house. I’m having a weakness. I can’t believe it. I’m ecstatic,” said MsRonan.
“It [camping overnight] was all worth it now. My sister is boiling mad, she was queuing too.”
Ms Mulcahy said the group has written to Mr Brooks’ management to plead with him for tickets.
“We’ve written to Garth Brooks management. There was nine of us in total — eight of us queued and one was online trying to buy tickets.
“I can’t believe our story made the headlines. It’s been a rollercoaster journey to see our hero Garth Brooks, and our new hero is Tubridy.”
